RETAIN WES FOR ASSESSOR
The Chelan County Assessor is responsible for determining the value of all taxable real and personal property in the county on a fair and equitable basis. The Assessor is also responsible for calculating the levy rates for each taxing district for the purpose of tax collection by the County Treasurer. Your property taxes go to pay for our schools, local government services, library, fire departments, and other services throughout the county. The wellbeing of our local government and the taxpayers we serve depends on the thoroughness and fairness of your Chelan County Assessor. This responsibility should not be taken lightly and requires a trusted leader who has experience and understanding of the many, varied, and changing responsibilities of the assessor.
Wes Cornelius is the only candidate running for Chelan County Assessor who has the skills, knowledge, and ability to do the job and to fight for you when our legislature wants to raise property taxes or implement new exemption programs that will result in our taxpayers paying more in property taxes. Wes will fight for you!
Wes has over 36 years of assessment-related experience, including:
- 16 years in the Chelan County Assessor’s Office, moving up the ladder from real property appraiser to appointed Assessor.
- 20 years in the real estate industry, starting as an agent and working his way up to real estate broker.
PRIORITIES
- Provide taxpayers with courteous and thorough customer service.
- Continue to improve and update our data for accuracy to ensure fair and equitable assessments.
- Continue educational opportunities and cross-train staff to ensure exceptional customer service.
- Actively promote legislation that enables us to do a more efficient job of appraising property and equalizing values.
- Work for and with taxpayers so that we might have a better understanding of the assessment process.
